Chamonix

"Chamonix is truly different from any other ski resort in the world. Anyone who has learned the basics on the rolling pastures of the Austrian Tyrol or in the purpose-built ‘ski factories’ of the French Tarentaise is in for a stupendous shock. Acknowledged as the climbing and extreme skiing capital of the world, this is high Alpine territory, where misjudging the severity of a run or the sudden changes of weather above 3,000m can cost a life.
Not so much a single resort as a chain of unconnected ski areas set along both sides of the valley dominated by Mont Blanc, Chamonix is glitteringly beautiful and deceptively tranquil on a sunny day. On stormy days, of which there are many, it is a brooding place, menaced by razor-sharp peaks and tumbling walls of ice."

The birthplace of mountaineering over 200 years ago, Chamonix is still considered the ultimate place to be for all those who share a love of nature and the mountains.
