"Crans-Montana sits on a
sunny plateau, dotted with larches and lakes, and the view across the Rhône
Valley is the most spectacular of all Alpine panoramas. However, it is
sometimes hard to believe that this town owes its existence to the
once-pure mountain air. The urban conglomeration sprawls untidily for more
than 2km along a busy main road. A funicular takes only 12 minutes to carry snow-users up to Crans-Montana from the valley town of Sierre. Swiss runs a weekly direct service on winter Saturdays between Heathrow and Sion, which is only 30 minutes from the resort." |
