Garmisc Partenkirchen

"This Bavarian ski resort was the site of the 1936 Winter Olympics as well as the 1978 Alpine World Championships. It has some of the best skiing and snowboarding in Germany."

 Garmisch would not generally be considered by the advanced, however it does give you the opportunity of ticking a few boxes such as skiing in Germany, skiing on Germany's highest mountain (The Zugspitz), skiing an Olympic venue and the chance to visit a mountain/area with a very rude name!
Garmisch is also handy to get to from Munich so a good choice for a long weekend if not a full week, although there are other small resorts close by so could be, with use of a car.
The lift system could do with a little investment but the views form the Zugspitz are well worth the trip.
The town itself is very pleasant with some nice little bars full of Bavarian charm & customs. A special mention must go to the Atlas Grand Hotel - Superb service and fantastic food - Highly Recommended.
