| "Val d’Isère, situated at the head of the Tarentaise Valley, induces a level of passionate partisan commitment among its devotees that is unequalled elsewhere. Together with neighbouring Tignes, it forms a rugged, boundary-free, snow-sure playground that is marketed as L’Espace Killy. This best suits a breed of dedicated enthusiast who knows his or her own DIN setting and seeks to escape the corral of tame, pristine, piste-only skiing that is imposed by the commercial machinations of other, understandably safety-conscious, major French resorts. Two reasons for Val’s appeal are apparent: firstly, its altitude and micro-climate ensure that skiing is possible from the beginning of December until early May. Some believe "Val" and "Tignes" is the best Ski area in the World. The Skiing is superb and if you get to ski with Jean or Patrick Zimmer from "Top Ski" you may find that you ski all day without ever seeing a piste ! | |
