"Val Thorens lays claim to being the highest ski village in western Europe and is the highest of the four principal resorts of the giant Trois Vallées. With its 189 lifts and 600km of prepared pistes, the Trois Vallées is the largest truly linked ski area in the world.
In fact, the Trois Vallées is no longer confined to three valleys but stretches over the back of Val Thorens into the Maurienne Valley and the Pointe de Bouchet ski area. It can be also accessed from Orelle, which is only a two-hour drive from Turin via the Fréjus tunnel. Consequently the number of Italians on the pistes has greatly increased."

Be careful - Be Very careful.
Don't go to Val Thorens when there is more snow than there is at the Antarctic.
They may sell you a full 3 Valleys pass and not open the links all week. Val
Thorens is the highest resort in Europe and boasts the highest pub, 'The Frog
and Roastbeef'. If you drive there, it's worth skiing on Saturday- the
changeover day, when it's much quieter and you may find that the links to
Meribel and Courchevel are open. You can then attack the full 600 kilometres of
the 3 valleys
