"A resort that has the right balance of everything – a big thumbs up,’ was how one reporter described it. Not only does Verbier have an enormous range and variety of challenging pistes, but it also offers some of Europe’s most exciting lift-served, off-piste skiing. Nowhere is there a more extensive menu of glaciers, couloirs and deep powder bowls for advanced skiers and riders. The Savolèyres and Lac des Vaux sectors provide a more limited playground for intermediates.
Verbier comprises a mixture of apartment blocks and chalet-style wooden buildings. Only 1,500 of the 15,000 beds are in hotels, and none of these has doorstep skiing. A church with a 20-m spire, built in 1962, dominates the straggling village." |
